This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of  Imaginative Arts as we study the principle of "Good families teach us about good societies" So far this month, what have you been learning about what makes: a good family a good society? Here's a little fun look at a strange family phenomenon to get us started this week! The arts often portray families and societies in so many different lights!  Let's explore that this week. OPEN YOUR MIND! 1. You could say that each member of a family and each member of society plays a part.  Check out my friend's slide show on theater  to learn more about the art medium of theater and think about how it relates to what you have observed in families and societies. 2. Read "Eight Cousins" and pay attention to the different family groups, societies and sub-societies that exist in the book. Which ones are healthy?  Which are not?  What makes them so?  M

March 26, 2020: Week 3 Eureka

This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of  Eureka! as we study the principle of "Good families teach us how to have good societies" OPEN YOUR MIND  Setting the stage... 1. "Mathematicians are People Too," r ead about Thales in "Pyramids, Olives and Donkeys."  He is considered one of the first people to "discover" electricity. 2. Study Electricity!  Electricity works when everything connects correctly...just ask your dad about shorts in a circuit!  Or think of a time when the breaker has been tripped.  Here are a few videos to introduce you to the basics of electricity: Electricity The history of electricity definitions 3. This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of Geo-Conquest as we study the principle of "Good families teach us how to have a good society" As we look around the world, we can see examples of families and societies--good and bad.  This week, think about the examples of societies you find in our study of North America, it's history and people (particularly the Amish) and add another column to your T-chart! March 12, 2020: Week 1 Leadership Academy

This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of Leadership Academy as we study the principle of "Good families teach us how to have a good society" What truths do you learn about how a good society functions as you study families?  Think extended family as well... How do the following attributes come into play? Responsibility Respect Stewardship The answers to these questions literally determine the success or failure of a society. This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of  Imaginative Arts as we study the principle of "A good leader has good character" --through Music, Poetry and Art-- Just as we learned about Leadership and Character through the lenses of: LEADERSHIP ACADEMY GEO-GENIUS EUREKA! now we are going to learn about it through the arts! OPEN YOUR MIND  1. Check out this amazing slide show on sculptures designed from my friend.  ( She did edit it to a degree but please check ahead to make sure it works for your family.)  Think about what you can learn about the character of good leadership as you study sculpture. 2. Read "Book of Three" and take notes about examples of leadership or any other cool thing you find!  MAKE CONNECTIONS! February 27, 2020: Week 3 Eureka!

This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of Eureka! as we study the principle of  "A good leader has good character" The scriptures tell us that all things testify of Christ.  We also learn that Christ is the Living Water .  He is the best example of leadership  ever .  What connections can you make between water, Christ and leadership after studying Archimedes and some of the principles of science involving water? #1 OPEN YOUR MIND  Remember--this is just where we start our journey of learning! Make sure you review the stuff in this first section as a starting point for making connections in the other sections. 1. Check out this Prezi on Africa for some fun facts!  (Take notes for the trivia game tomorrow!) Mary's prezi on Africa This morning as we were watching the 1,000 days church video about providing water in Africa, we talked about how good leaders will help people with what they need right then, without any agenda. Even if the leader's purpose is to, say, share the Gospel, they won't expect everyone who they run into to listen to them. If the people need something else, they will give it to them.
