Sept Week 2: Geo-conquest!

This week we will seek to
Open minds
Make connections
Be inspired
through the lens of history and geography.

In other words, we are going to discover what the world has to teach us about 
how education can help us in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness 
by doing the following:

OPEN YOUR MIND & MAKE CONNECTIONS!
Continent for the month: Europe

PROJECTS:  Choose any of the following (do as many as you'd like!) to enhance your learning.
Please share what you learned through a Marco Polo message to the group, private Youtube video,
make a prezi and share it, take pictures of what you do, or share your information in a separate
post or in the comments below! If you do a separate post, please include "Sept Week 2" in the title ;).

* Draw an outline of Europe
* Tell a folktale, fable or legend from Europe 
* Bring a representative piece of art from Europe
* Mark all the temples on a map 
* Fill in a blank map
* Write down 10 interesting facts about Europe
* Bring a movie/CD with dance or song from Europe
* Read a brief biography about a famous person from Europe
* Make a more detailed map of Europe adding either physical features or political boundaries.
* Make a food that would be considered culturally unique. 
* Act out a story or legend either by yourself or with a group.

CURRENT EVENTS: Watch CNN 10 (formally student news) 5 days this week (parental preview/support is recommended) and then bring your favorite or most interesting news story to share.

We can't do a lot of this in class so please have fun,
especially with that first one :D


* Nory Ryan Internet Search – This site has TONS of Geography & Science questions, with links to answer the
questions (I personally tested all the links and found them very informational).  Go on as many tangents as you
want, keep notes and prepare to share something you found interesting. *Don’t everyone do #1 to share.

* At the bottom of the page there are tons of additional inspirements you can do, writing ideas and more topics
to explore.

* Here is my Playlist of interesting videos I have found on Youtube.  Let me know if you found an interesting video,
send me the link, I’ll preview it and add it to the Playlist for others to view your video.

LOOKING AHEAD
We are reading "Heidi" or "The Lost Prince" for our main book this month, to be discussed in three weeks.
 You might want to start reading it soon. 
Please consider getting it on audio if that is easier for you :D.

Also, I want to have an "elocution" moment on week 4 (that same week).
Please pick a scripture, poem, speech or lines from a play that you want to memorize and 
give in front of the group to practice public speaking.  Think about clarity of speech, volume, speed, etc as you practice reciting it.  This can be done as a family, of course, or can be something that you memorized a long time ago.  We look forward to hearing from you!

    Excited about this week. We are going to draw outlines of Europe and label the temples to start. We'll see what else we can do in this time. We need to check this page daily so we don't miss anything. Thanks Mary for all you do!

This week we will seek to Open minds Make connections Be inspired through the lens of  Imaginative Arts as we study the principle of "A good leader has good character" --through Music, Poetry and Art-- Just as we learned about Leadership and Character through the lenses of: LEADERSHIP ACADEMY GEO-GENIUS EUREKA! now we are going to learn about it through the arts! OPEN YOUR MIND  1. Check out this amazing slide show on sculptures designed from my friend.  ( She did edit it to a degree but please check ahead to make sure it works for your family.)  Think about what you can learn about the character of good leadership as you study sculpture. 2.
