OPEN YOUR MIND
What is a leader?
More importantly, what makes up the character of a good leader?
(if you have time, check out the fundamental, short essay: "The Core and Crust of Leadership" by Timothy Clarke here)
Watch this video and ask yourself the following questions:
MAKE CONNECTIONS!

(if you have time, check out the fundamental, short essay: "The Core and Crust of Leadership" by Timothy Clarke here)
Watch this video and ask yourself the following questions:
Is this woman a leader?
If so, how?
What did she learn of leadership from Mother Theresa?
This week we don't have a lot of time to study so let's make this quick!
MAKE CONNECTIONS!
Learn what you can about Mother Theresa and make a T-chart. Your's will look a little different from the one below, so hang on for a second! Instead of just two columns, you are going turn your paper sideways and then you are going to draw one with four lines coming down, dividing the paper into 5 sections.
Put your name at the top of the first column and then Mother Theresa's in the second. (Keep this for the upcoming weeks!) Then as you study about Mother Theresa, write down qualities of her character that made her a good leader.
Identify ones on your side that you also have.
Identify one in some distinct way that you would like to have.

Now, how to learn about her:
-the best video I have seen about her is "Mother Theresa: In the name of God's poor." If you don't have that one or one of your own, here is the best online video I could find with short notice: Video on Mother Theresa
-picture books from the library or a multitude of youtube video dedicated to her name are available, upon the preview of your parent. Please share ones you find that you are impressed by! I tried to include a short option above in the interest of this short week.

BE INSPIRED!
-Write a poem, draw a picture or make a prezi in which you share what you learned about leadership and/or Mother Theresa this week and share it with us!
-In your Youth Program/Children's program booklet, consider making a goal that was inspired by something you learned about Mother Theresa or something that will make you a better leader :D.

LOOKING AHEAD
We are reading "Book of Three" for our main book this month, to be discussed in four weeks.
You might want to start reading it soon.
Please consider getting it on audio if that is easier for you :D.
Also, I want to have an "elocution" moment on week 4 (that same week).
Please pick a scripture, poem, speech or lines from a play that you want to memorize and
give in front of the group to practice public speaking. Think about clarity of speech, volume, speed, etc as you practice reciting it. This can be done as a family, of course, or can be something that you memorized a long time ago. We look forward to hearing from you!
Piper found this great video about leadership that has a lot of words about leadership along with inspiring clips from videos and the lives of a few other people. We watched it for devotional and would love to hear of any other ones you guys find :D!

Kai's poem: THE DIFFERENCE
ReplyDeleteby Alan Grant
I got up early one morning
and rushed right into the day.
I had so much to accomplish
that I didn't have time to pray.
Problems just tumbled about me
and heavier became each task.
"Why doesn't God help me," I wondered.
He answered, "you didn't ask."
I wanted to see joy and beauty,
but the day toiled on, gray and bleak.
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He explained, "you didn't seek."
So, determined to be in God's presence
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My child, you didn't knock."
I woke up early this morning
and paused before entering the day.
I had so much to accomplish
that I had to take time to pray.
